This dog portrait painting by Penny Richardson is the drop eared variety and is known as the Norfolk terrier. It is believed that crossing Cairn terriers and Irish terriers used by the Gypsy community of Norfolk brought about the development of the Norfolk terrier.

Penny Richardson lives in Exton in Rutland with her husband John and they have five children.

Exton is in the East Midlands between the market towns of Oakham in Rutland and Stamford in Lincolnshire. The town of Stamford is known for the famous Burghley Horse trials.

Penny was born in the spa town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Penny’s mother, Florence (Bunty) Wilson was an anatomical artist, she studied anatomy and figure drawing at the Harrogate school of Art, she was born at Hawksworth, West Riding, Yorkshire.
Penny’s father, John Whadcoat, the great grandson of the original John Player from Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, was born in the village of Langham in Rutland.

Penny grew up at Northfield farm, Cold Overton, near the market town of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire.

She spent her primary years at a PNEU school at East Leake, near Loughborough. She then went to Morcott Hall School for Girls in Leicestershire, and from there went to Loughborough Art College.

Penny Richardson first started as a professional Dog, Cat and Horse Pet Portrait artist in 1984. Penny has been commissioned all over the United Kingdom including Scotland and Wales. She regularly receives commissions from the counties of Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.
Recently she has also completed commissions and sold artwork in Cambridgeshire, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Cornwall, and the Cities of London and Manchester.
